The North Sea Project

For this special show, Newcastle-based Ditte Elly performed alongside a 10-piece orchestra and choir, and exploring the history, myth and beauty of the North East through her new work; The North Sea Project.

The culmination of 3 years of development; the work is a collection of songs specific to the North East of England, combining masterful song-writing with tales of the Viking invasion, the siege of Newcastle, shipwrecks at Tynemouth and sea swimming in King Edwards Bay.

On 27th January 2017, Ditte Elly will perform a totally new collection of songs at Sage Gateshead, alongside a 15-piece orchestral ensemble. This video documents the first rehearsal of the song ‘The Swimmers’.
